Valentine Round Up – DIY

Candy hearts with X’s + O’s.

red + pink lollies.

And those sweet little Valentine exchanges…

There’s just something about this February holiday that brings out the romantic in all of us, kids + grown-ups alike. It’s all about the heart-shaped goodies and the love + like-inspired sentiments.  Who can resist?

I always love an excuse to celebrate the holiday-du-jour and do a little creative crafting. Valentine’s Day has me all heart eyes and thinking pink (+ red).

A favorite Valentine memory from my youth is making crayon hearts, made with colorful crayon shavings, wax paper, some ribbon or string, and an iron (for melting the shavings, creating that translucent stain-glass effect).  I shared more photos + the how-to here. Or, head to the go-to source (Martha) for a step-by-step guide.

This is how my crayon hearts turned out. What do you think? Now they’re decorating the door to my porch. I love the way the afternoon light illuminates the colors.

Another fun creative idea, perfect for Valentine gift-giving, is our DIY tissue paper mug. See our how-to video here (we initially designed these mugs as a Christmas craft, but you can make them year-round for any occasion.)

For Valentines, just add hints of pink + red-hot hues and fill with candies, chocolates, heart-shaped cookies or pretty pastel flowers…

…or enjoy a hot cup of cinnamon chai or cider in your home-made mug…

{Isn’t she adorable? Lilly and I crafted these mugs together with tissue paper, torn into small pieces; a paint brush and some dishwasher-safe Mod Podge. See a specific how-to via I Spy DIY.}

I also wanted to give ya’ll some fun ideas for Valentine-specific sweet treats to fill your mugs. I found some recipes that I just couldn’t wait to create.

Like this delicious-looking recipe for white chocolate popcorn, mixed with conversation hearts and sprinkles via Gimme Some Oven …A perfect choice to fill your hand-crafted mugs.

Or, of course there’s always the timeless + irresistibly sweet old-fashioned heart-shaped sugar cookie. I found a perfect recipe via Alice and Lois

And because I just couldn’t get enough of all of the heart-shaped goodness,

Here are a few more Valentine-inspired DIY ideas, perfect for your funny Valentine…

There’s nothing like having a little fun with heart stickers (these ones are designed as wall decals).  I found this sweet image on a blog post by Décor 8 with 28 Creative Ideas for Valentines. Oh the fun you can have with hearts and pretty shades of pink + red.

Who needs a dozen red roses when you can have a bouquet of hand-made pom-pom flowers? I love this idea via asubtlerevelry.
